The ball goes over the back of my stick
The stick is tilting too early during the flick. Watch video of yourself from a side-on position and pay particular attention to where you are tilting the stick.
I have no accuracy
Point your left shoulder towards the point on the goal that you want to flick at. Make sure your Follow Through is following through toward goal and not past the post.
My hands are sliding.
Grip the stick tighter, tape finger to stick.
My flicks are going over the crossbar
Your follow through is finishing too high. Try keeping your head down longer and whipping the stick round lower on your body.
I am not picking the ball up cleanly.
You need to try slowing the footwork down. If you are flicking off the 6 step run-up then try flicking off the 3 step. This will enable you to build up a good rhythm before going back to try the harder run-up. You can also try starting with your stick on the ground.
I can’t get the ball to roll up and down the stick.
Try starting standing still with your feet together and your hands on the ground with the ball halfway up the shaft. Try rolling the ball down the shaft and flicking it. Then try picking the ball up on the head and sliding the stick flatter so the head goes past the ball. Repetition is the only way to remedy this.
I can’t flick right, I can only go left.
When you get to the midpoint of your stance with the ball you need to push your left hand out in front of the ball to release the ball earlier. One way to try this is to slow things down completely and take out the footwork altogether. It is also a good idea to use heavier balls for this as they are easier to control.
I have no power.
Watch video of yourself and see how long the ball is in contact with the stick for. The time is very important. If this is ok then look at the acceleration. Remember that the speed should build up gradually from the moment you pick the ball up.
